A trip down to the capital and then a trip up to Lancashire in the space of three days can only mean one thing to me…..Dave Matthews Band are back in the UK after an absence of five years….and my word they are back with a bang!!!!
What you get with the DMB is a different set each night….these guys are some of the greatest musicians I’ve ever seen in my 35 years of concert going and you just never know what you are going to get from each performance…..the only guarantee is that you are in for one hell of a ride.
Across the two nights in very different settings…..the O2 Arena being a vast modern day multi event arena and Manchester Apollo an old school type concert hall you feel that this band doesn’t care where they play…..as long as they play…..two different nights…..two different opening songs, in London the full band strolled on stage to deliver ‘Squirm’ but in Manchester it was Dave Matthews on his own to open the set with a solo track ‘Sugar Will’.
Over the two evenings the band delivered most of the tracks the fans wanted such as ‘The Stone’, ‘Warehouse’, ‘Crush’, ‘#41’, ‘Grey Street’ and ‘Jimi Thing’….each track is greeted with such enthusiasm from the crowd that I still find it difficult to understand why more folk don’t know of this amazing band.
Across the two nights only three tracks were duplicated in a total of 38 tracks, many songs develop into real jam performances, the songs can last anything from 6 mins right up to 16,17 mins depending on how the band are feeling, the DMB are a joy to behold live…..this was my ninth time of being in the company of Mr Matthews and his fine band of minstrels….let’s hope that gig number ten follows real soon….and you really need to be there too.
