One time Eighties Matchbox Men are back
Previously of cult heroes Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Sym Gharial (Bass) and Andy Huxley (Vocals / Guitar), along with new blood Sean Duke (Guitar / Vocals) and Tim Venning (Drums) fuel the fire of new band PIANO WIRE. A brand new double A-side release, consisting of two bristling post-punk gems – their first studio recordings – is now streaming and will be available via the band’s own Hanging Houses label. Dark and hard yet scorched with melody and an unconventional pop sensibility, ‘Get A Life’ and ‘All Roads Lead To God’ are the first definitive statements from the band.
As lyricist Sym says, the spirited ‘All Roads Lead To God’ is “A hymn to the beautiful, the damned and the ostrich-leathered dandies, building a beautifully fragile world around their devotion to music and pleasure. If you never spend time in those places, you’re missing out on something.”
‘Get A Life’ is similarly hedonistic in its thematic material: “It’s getting dark. We pictured Dorian Gray getting whipped whilst handcuffed to the ceiling by his lover before going out to save the universe. Oscar Wilde was not an advocate of living life in the slow lane.”
Inspired by QOTSA and Elliott Smith, Love and Brainiac; and with a plethora of literary influences (Bukowski, Burroughs, Orwell…), Piano Wire have absorbed it all but the resulting music is like no other. Their metamorphosis has been fuelled by sessions with Gil “Pixies/Foos” Norton, showing them just what they can achieve as a band.
