A year after the release of their critically acclaimed album The House Beyond The Fires, Macclesfield’s finest, The Virginmarys, unveil the brand-new video for “Trippin’ New York City”, out now.
“Trippin’ New York City” is the final offering from The House Beyond The Fires, hitting with the electrifying and urgent energy that has become a hallmark of The Virginmarys’ two-piece setup. Fiercely delivered hooks and gritty dynamics underpin vocals that slice through the mix with swaggering intensity, as the track hurtles forward like a runaway train. Balancing grit and melody in a way that feels both raw and unmistakably The Virginmarys, “Trippin’ New York City” stands bold, visceral, and unapologetically alive.
Frontman Ally Dickaty states, “This album has been so special for a very many reasons, in all honesty it forever will be to me and Danny. We wanted to release this last single from it as a celebration and a big thank you to all our incredible fans who have been with us since the start and the many who have come along since its release, we are grateful to you all. It pre-empts an upcoming alternative edition of the album, as we hit the studio to record our new material for album 5.
Danny Dolan adds: ‘Trippin’ New York City was one of the first tracks we had for ‘The House Beyond The Fires’ album and early on I thought it could definitely be a single so it’s really cool we’re getting to release this as officially the 5th single.
I met the director Owen Tuson after sending him the track and I had in my head this one could be like an animation video and so wouldn’t necessarily feature the band in it. He said he’d had this idea for a video he’d wanted to use for ages but the right track hadn’t come along but really felt it could work with Trippin’ NYC. The idea sounded pretty out there on many levels but when he mentioned a giant octopus coming out of Ally’s stomach and grabbing me in a death lock I was sold’.
Following the success of The House Beyond The Fires, The Virginmarys will head back out on the road next spring for a three-week tour across Europe and the UK. Covering nine countries, the run begins in the Netherlands, moves through France, Germany, and continues on to Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Sweden, before concluding with a return to the UK.
Frontman Ally Dickaty says:“We’re really looking forward to getting back out across Europe and the UK. It’s been incredible seeing how people have connected with The House Beyond The Fires, and taking these songs to so many different places feels like the perfect way to close this chapter. We’re grateful for every venue and every crowd that keeps live music alive.”
The House Beyond The Fires is the band’s first album since they reformed as a two piece in 2021, teaming up with Dave Draper to produce the drums and guitars (Terrorvision, The Wildhearts) and Karl Daniel Lidén from Sweden for the mix and mastering – an instant go-to after hearing his work (Dozer, Greenleaf) and this approach has certainly paid off.
Ally continues, “We have always been renowned for the power and energy of our live performances and strived to recreate that intensity through the production and mix of the records. I feel like we’ve really turned a corner with this album”

The album carries a deep personal significance for the band as Ally tells us:
“This album is a tribute to Danny’s Dad, Tommy Dolan, who passed away last year. It’s difficult to articulate how much he meant to us and how deep the grief runs within all who loved him. The LP is a direct reference to his notorious shop, The House of Fires; it felt fitting to make a direct reference to his love, support and influence in the album title.”
He continues, “This will also be the first album released since becoming a two-piece, we have grown a lot in the last few years by tuning into our creative synergy and transposing it into our most impactful work to date.”
The House Beyond The Fires takes you on an all-encompassing journey with more earworms than ever before, from the stunningly powerful ‘When The Lights Go Down’ to the meaningful ‘Dance To The City’ which revisits the Manchester music scene of old, the cliques, the gatekeepers and the struggles of a modern band, while also being a song of reflection for Tommy Dolan who was a big part of the Manchester scene. ‘White Knuckle Riding’ is a deeper track that takes on the daily struggles with mental health, ‘There Ain’t No Future’ hits you with the funk and builds up into an angry ‘in your face’ chorus giving us that raw energy we have come to expect from the duo.
