MV approved swamp blues hits the road
Shawn James and the Shapeshifters announce U.S. tour dates starting in March to support of their album titled, The Gospel According to Shawn James & The Shapeshifters, which dropped last April. The album is a high energy rock opus blending elements of swampy blues, heavy metal and featuring intensely soulful, passionate vocals.
The band has garnered the attention of music supervisors and original songs like ” Omens” have landed placements on popular TV shows like Yukon Men on the Discovery Channel. In 2015 the band won in a competition held by Metalsucks and Converse and got to record their song “Hellhound” at a Converse Rubber Tracks recording facility in New York.
Shawn James and the Shapeshifters has shared the stage with artists like Crowbar, Helmet, He is Legend, Murder by Death, Lucero and The Hooten Hallers. “We’re looking forward to bringing our intense nonstop rowdy live shows to audiences across the US” Shawn James says. “We’ll be preaching ‘the Gospel’ to all that care to listen.” Audiences can hear the band’s influences which are as diverse as Son House and Red Fang, to Howlin Wolf and Witchcraft, Sleep or Graveyard.
The band is Shawn James on guitar and vocals, Baker McKinney on banjo, Jeff Bodine on bass and Kirby Westmoreland on drums. MetalSucks enthuses “if this shit doesn’t get you clappin’ your hands, tappin’ your foot, and lookin’ for a partner with whom to do-si-do STAT, then you need to check your pulse.” Danger Dog Blog catalogs the band’s sound citing “early heavy rock, like something out of the mid-Seventies, and classic Southern rock. But there are more layers put upon this: bluegrass, folk, stoner, country and swamp music.” Sea of Tranquility concurs explaining the band’s sound cannot be easily added to any one genre since it’s got “a country edge, a touch of bluegrass, a rock n’ roll heart and a dash of metal, Shawn James & The Shapeshifters genuinely sound like no other band I’ve stumbled across.”
