New Jersey-based hard rockers Who On Earth have just released a new single and video for a song entitled ‘Yesterday’s Future’, which is also included on their recently issued ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ EP.

“This is a song that takes you on a journey through life, and hopefully to a mindset of wisdom and clarity,” state the band. “To get there, we must pass through various growth stages that include learning life’s lessons, often the hard way. But there is a cadence to it all and a spirit that guides us even when we don’t know it.”

Commenting on the six minute duration of the track, they add: “If a song takes you for a ride that includes plenty of twists and turns and tells a great story, then who cares how long it is. Sometimes three minutes ain’t enough.”

In regard to its video, they explain: “We sat down to lay out its sequencing and immediately thought that telling the story through the lens of Native American culture was going to be impactful. Their respect for Earth, the spiritual fabric woven through their daily lives, plus the knowledge of true human nature that the Native Americans possessed made it the perfect choice. Our buddy Alien AL Overlord absolutely knocked it out of the park (again!) with putting the clip together.”

‘Yesterday’s Future’ is a song inspired by one of the band’s heroes. “Iron Maiden is a huge, huge influence and Steve Harris was THE inspiration to pick up the bass at 15,” says bassist Pete Rizzi. “Everyone asks me, ‘Why don’t you cover a Maiden song?’ I wanted to go a step further. I tried to lean into that influence and write a song in their style with plenty of room for the Smith/Murray-like guitar harmonies that are such a signature of their sound sound. Bruce Gatewood (may he RIP) and Johnny James Barone did such an amazing job! Our producer Mike Orlando also really helped us make it truly epic!”

The entire ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ EP was produced, mixed, engineered and mastered by Mike Orlando (Category 7, Adrenaline Mob) at Sonic Stomp Studios in New York. Having completed the recording of the EP and further new material in the summer of 2024, lead guitarist Bruce Gatewood died of a sudden heart attack.“We have vowed to honour him by getting this music out to the world and keeping his memory alive,” the band reflected at the time. A beloved friend and musician, his legacy is deeply embedded in their music.

“We are releasing new music throughout 2025, with ‘Smoke & Mirrors’ being the end of phase one. We can’t wait for people to hear how the band has grown from our debut album ‘Blame’ [issued in 2022] and how layered our songwriting and musicianship has become.”
