Americana/post punk group, The Autumn Saints, are described as ” Johnny Cash meets The Clash” and “The Band meets War-on-Drugs”.
Their new single, “I Am The Gadfly”, from the album, Wind Burn & Broken Oak, is out now and features Justin Sullivan from New Model Army on backing vocals. “We were thrilled when Justin agreed to sing on the track. Absolutely nobody sings like him. It was an honour”. The Autumn Saints have previously toured with New Model Army. Their Birmingham gig was reviewed by MVM back in 2020.
Signed by Nick Stewart, who signed Killing Joke and U2, they mix post-punk and Americana.
Lead-singer Britt Strickland brings Southern-storytelling from his North Carolina home to the UK. The tradition made famous by the likes of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash is alive in their music: tales of hurricanes sweeping through the Appalachian Mountains and late-night encounters at a lonely crossroads.
The British influence is also unmistakable. David Ireland’s ethereal guitar floats and weaves through songs with atmospheric depth that British-indie-groups do so well. Martin Gallagher (drums) brings vibrant-shuffling-rhythms, like the Stone Roses. Nick Bennett (Hammond Organ/lapsteel/guitar/harmonies) brings bright-roots-flavour to the mix.
