Rock alligators DRUG CHURCH have released a brand new single ‘Bliss Out’ ahead of their upcoming North American tour with Thrice and mewithoutYou.
Recorded during the Cheer sessions, “Bliss Out” offers crushingly catchy guitars and stomping rhythm over which vocalist Patrick Kindlon roars his sardonic and intensely human lyrics. FLOOD called the song “as cathartic as it is relatable, detailing the personal and societal frustrations of this dumb period we call late capitalism.”
“Ever have a run of bad luck so bad you wondered what god you offended?” Kindlon shares of the track’s inspiration. “This song is about going to a fortune teller and having them tell you, ‘sorry, bro. Fairness left the building. Get under a desk because the nukes are inbound.”
Drug Church are a glorious contradiction. They are an undeniably aggressive band that writes hooks you can’t stop humming: too poppy for the heavy crowd, too heavy for the poppy crowd. Their frontman is a singer who rarely sings and delivers lyrics that revel in the darkest corners of the human condition, but are just as likely to make you laugh as they are to make you flinch. They loudly shout the uncomfortable truths we prefer to ignore but somehow make us want to shout along with them; they make serious music but don’t take themselves too seriously; they are completely adverse to planning but have accidentally built a loyal cult following.
In 2018 Drug Church released their third full-length, Cheer, earning the band new fans and praise from Stereogum, Noisey, Revolver, and more with its explosive blend of aggressive hardcore and massive, ’90s alternative indebted hooks.
