Culture Killed It

Everything you need to know about Florida band’s debut

Florida’s Culture Killer are releasing their full length, Throes of Mankind, on November 27th, 2015 via Metal blade Records. Previously, the band had released the Denial EP in 2014, and the Exterminate Filthsingle earlier in 2015. This is an exceptionally fast trajectory from being a local act in the southeastern US to being vaulted onto the international metal scene with a full length on Metal Blade Records. Though it should be abundantly clearly upon first listens that Throes of Mankind finds a band primed for bigger stages and bigger tours.

Culture Killer is prepared, and extremely motivated, to bring their music and message to a wider audience. Guitarist/vocalist Hunter Young explains: “The album hits on specific topics that the world has been battling: racism, human trafficking, pedophilia, addiction to prescription drugs, celebrity worship, etc.” The Culture Killer lineup is rounded out by vocalist Ian Campbell, guitarist Trevor Kopp, bassist Collin Townsend, and drummer Dylan Blow. The band delivers pummeling metallic hardcore with violent, malevolent fervor. Their message is clear to those familiar with the band’s previous work, particularly with the dramatic cover art of a hooded figure being hung on the Exterminate Filth single.

Throes of Mankind is bolstered sonically by a heavy hitting production. It was engineered by Austin Coupe and Kenny Gil at Pig Pen Recordings, mixed by Kenny Gil, and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music. The band described the tracking process as “the smoothest, most fun process we have ever experienced.” Young added that “Kenny and Austin are old friends of ours, so honestly it was just an all around amazing experience.” A smooth studio experience might explain the clarity and veracity of the tracks contained herein.

Ultimately, Culture Killer is the platform the members use to discuss topics they deem to be important. Not merely important, but topics they feel should be under discussion. They feel that “using the band to do anything other than talk about the evils and tragedies in the world would be doing an injustice to the listener and to ourselves.”

“Speak it and live it.”
