Brisbane trio, sweater curse are once again back with new playful track ‘All the Same‘ and accompanying video as well as the announcement of their second EP push//pull dropping next month, Friday 25 September.
Off the back of their previous single ‘Close‘, sweater curse have followed up with a new track ‘All The Same’. Premiering via triple j’s unearthed TOPS, the playful instrumentals balance out the sarcastic lyrics to form a song that strays from the sweater curse‘s former sound, and further emphasises the band’s new direction. Written during a late-night writing session on a farm an hour out of Brisbane, ‘All the Same‘ highlights the monotonous rhythm of day-to-day life.
“All The Same is about nothing and everything, doing the same things every weekend, going to the same places, seeing the same things and people, but just going with it.” explains lead singer Mon.
Accompanying their new single is an artfully crafted music video directed by Nick Sullivan. Nick, usually working in the corporate world, works with sweater curse as a passion project and is a self-proclaimed ‘superfan’ of the trio. “I wanted to portray someone who is content in their day to day life and won’t change for anyone”, explains Nick. The video which was filmed over Sydney’s isolation period and features eerily quiet locations usually bustling with people.
Following the life of a disruptive grandma, the clip highlights the juxtaposition of the greyness of the day and the woman’s outfit and antics, finishing with a twist. “When the video finally got sent to us I was blown away and so excited. It was so cool to see his interpretation of the song and I watched the video 5 times in a row to let it sink in,” explains guitarist Chris.
Sweater curse has had a stellar start to the year with their last single ‘Close’ premiering via triple j’s Home & Hosed, added to rotation on both triple j and triple j Unearthed, while also receiving high praise from publications such as NME Australia, Life Without Andy, Music Feeds and GC Live. ‘Close’ also landed on Spotify editorial playlists New Music Fridays, Local Noise and Indie Arrivals as well as Amazon Music’s editorial playlists Fresh Indie and Brand New Music.
