Country from the East Midlands
The Most Ugly Child are a 6-piece country powerhouse, with rabble rousing fiddle breaks and pedal steel swells to make you weep, playing country music the way it’s supposed to be, with battered hearts worn on their sleeves. The band is centred around the songwriting partnership ofDaniel Wright and Stevie-Leigh Goodison who’ve been likened to some of the great country duos of the past.
Their captivating and eclectic original material blends seamlessly with old country classics, with influences ranging from Hank Williams, Townes Van Zandt and George Jones to Tom Waits and Led Zeppelin and their live shows are full of romanticism, sorrow and grit. This is not revivalist music, this is timeless, songs of love and loss.
Augmented by some of the finest musicians in the Midlands, with the current line-up including the tightest rhythm section in Nottingham, Matt Cutler and Max Johnson (The Broom Hill String Band), Nicole J Terry(The Rip-Roaring Success) on fiddle and ‘Big’ Jim Widdop (The Sadies, Los Pacaminos) on pedal steel and dobro.
Following their debut EP A Wicked Wind Blows, released to great reviews in 2014, the band release their first full length album Copper and Laceon February 27, with live shows planned across the UK throughout 2017.
