Brighton-based vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Ruby Taylor releases new track ‘Howl’ under her iconic musical pseudonym Yumi And The Weather via her own MIOHMI Records imprint.

Ever since first introducing her sound to the music scene 8 years ago with her acclaimed debut EP ‘All We Can’, Yumi has been seen touring with British Sea Power, performing at several festivals (Green Man, Shambala), and releasing her self-titled debut album, gathering praise from BBC 6 Music, Radio X, Clash, The Line Of Best Fit, DJ Mag and more. One of the tracks was even featured on the BBC hit drama series ‘Normal People’.

Fresh from Yumi’s repertoire is ‘Howl’, an energetic garage rock number exemplifying retro soundscapes with fuzzy guitar and vocal lines. Taylor couples vibrant instrumentation with mellifluous singing, softening the psychedelic elements. Soaring through the track, vivid progressions gallop alongside the persistent drum beat, adopting a greatly spirited character which connects with listeners on an intimate level.

Speaking on the new cut, Ruby offers: “‘Howl’ is about our natural body hair, and this song for me during writing it was an opportunity to reflect on hair and how something that is natural can cause insecurities and make one feel powerful when we can control it to suit our needs and desires. Growing up I was every now and then teased and made to feel insecure about my body hair by both men and women, which created this urge to always get rid of every hair in sight and now I suppose I feel like we live in a time now where it is just accepted which is nice, and not so much a big deal anymore so this song is a celebration for hair and our care routines!”
