Atom Works are delighted to announce the release of “The Life of Spice” on 6 September 2019, distributed via Absolute Label Services. The album is preceded today by the release of a single and video for ‘The Atom Dance’, and live dates are to be announced soon. Further tracks will be made available ahead of the album’s release.
Atom Works is a progressive rock & metal band based in Helsinki, Finland. The band’s sound is punctuated by a driving progression through dramatic themes and moods coupled with a lyrical concept story. The typically epic tracks evolve quickly, taking the listener on a diverse musical journey. The melodic yet heavy sound is inspired by the likes of Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, Fates Warning, Genesis and many other classic and contemporary acts.
The two founding members of the band, Kasper and Niklas, approached Zsolt to join on keys. He immediately clicked as a natural accomplice to Kasper’s sweeping guitar parts and further brought a deeper sense of drama and a wide soundscape. British singer Steve had worked with Niklas before and was already working on songs rooted in a concept that reached its fruition on ‘The Life of Spice’. The album focuses on an ambitious plot about an extraordinary near-immortal and is set for the most part on a train in 1934 India. Mats Ödahl, a bassist long associated with Niklas, performed on the album but on tour Atom Works will be joined by Roi Partanen. The current line up is: Steve Baker – Vocals, Kasper Rosqvist – Guitar, Zsolt Szilagyi – Keys, Roi Partanen – Bass, Niklas Finnäs – Drums.
Over a full year, from Spring 2018 to Spring 2019, Niklas assembled the tracks which he had produced and mostly engineered himself with engineering assistance from Oskar Skaag of Stereotype Studios, Helsinki. ‘The Life of Spice’ was mastered in April 2019 by Ludvig Nylund at Backstreets Mastering in Finland.
‘The Life of Spice’ is a powerful and ambitious album, packed with ideas, variety and phenomenal playing. Atom Works have created an album that lingers long in the mind after each play.
