Dutch psych-rock renegades DeWolff have announced their first ever UK headline tour. They will begin in Newcastle at The Cluny on 13 March and will call through Edinburgh (The Voodoo Rooms), Aberdeen (The Tunnels), Glasgow (Hug & Pint), Manchester (Night & Day), Bristol (The Louisiana), Oxford (The Bullingdon), Nottingham (Bodega), Hastings (Black Box) and it finishes on 23 March at Omera, London. Tickets are available HERE.
We saw them last year when they opened for Jared James Nichols and said: “They’ve things to say and the Dutch three-piece are doing it at their own pace. They’ve never seemed happier either.”, as a band who is made for albums, we sat down with Luka van de Poel (Drums) to get his top 5.
LED ZEPPELIN 1
Not a lot of words needed for this one! Zeppelin always keeps coming back when we’re talking about music that is close to our hearts. Bonham’s drumming inspired me when I was a kid and he still does all those years later.
The power and sound of this first record always leaves me in awe. If I was given a chance to travel back in time I would be in the front row of that Royal Albert Hall concert in 1970!

James Carr – You Got My Mind Messed Up
This is one of those albums that really turned me on to southern soul. Carr’s gritty voice truly is one of the most powerful and beautiful voices out there. Whenever people ask me about my favorite soul album I always mention this one because each song just grabs you by the throat. After ‘discovering’ this record I just couldn’t get enough of that deep southern soul sound and soon was hooked on Otis Redding, Jimmy Hughes, William Bell, Sam & Dave, Aretha Franklin. You name it!
From pretty early one we started to absorb this music and you can hear those influences in our latest album.

John Mayall & The Blues Breakers – With Eric Clapton
This is the record that got us into blues. We were in our early teens when Clapton’s immaculate tone soaked our brains. After listening to this record on repeat we were soon trying to play this record front to back and note by note on our instruments. For me it still sounds so fresh and juicy and every time Pablo plays the first notes of ‘All your Love’ during a soundcheck we immediately jump in, and play that record front to back again.
Song: All Your Love –
Delta Swamp Rock Vol. 1
I bought this compilation album without knowing what to expect. I knew the Allman Brothers Band and Link Wray, but had never heard of bands like Cowboy, Area Code 615 and Barefoot Jerry. This is a great compilation album that totally turned us on to late 60’s/early 70’s Southern rock and we discovered some real obscure masterpieces thanks to this record. You should definitely check out the albums 5’ll Getcha Ten by Cowboy and Southern Delight by Barefoot Jerry. Bands that fused Americana, rock, cosmic country and soul with vocal harmonies that will blow your mind!
Song: Please Be With Me –
Black Keys – Brothers
One of the few ‘contemporary’ albums that still linger with us. Since its release we have been inspired by the sound and songs of this record. Even though we were already Black Keys fans from their first record, ‘Brothers’ really touched a string because it has so much soul. We were lucky to be the opening act on two shows when the Keys were touring this record.
