Following an extensive tour across the UK, New Pagans have revealed their brand new single and video ‘Find Fault With Me’. The new track is their first taste of new music since the release of their critically acclaimed album The Seed, The Vessel, The Roots and All earlier this year. Listen to the new single here.

Speaking on the new single, lead vocalist Lyndsey McDougall stated, “It feels like lots of people have had a really hard time over the last few years, dealing with various forms of personal stress and collective aggravation. This song is about checking in with each other and recognising when someone around you needs support. Although the song emerges with a heavy heart, it concludes with a chorus of elevated voices [singing] ‘I’ve got you’ and New Pagans has always been about more than just the music, it’s about building a community who look out for each other and take action when they need to.”

The accompanying video takes the core of the song’s inspiration and flips it on its axis, taking the theme of togetherness and placing it in a ritualistic setting. Based on an idea formed by band bassist and director Claire Miskimmin, it sees the performing a cult-like ritual as they discover that focusing on the wrong things can have disastrous consequences.

Speaking on the music video, Miskimmin commented, “When it comes to making the videos we usually have an improvised, see what happens on the day kind of attitude. However, knowing we were working with Dave / Macker Films put a bit more pressure on me to come up with something solid and not have Dave wandering about the Irish countryside with me while I draped fabric off rocks and trees! Dave is an absolute treat to work with, he just gets it. The video came to me fully formed, as luck would have it, over coffee one morning and I immediately had it story-boarded and sent to the rest of the band with a request to sharpen their acting skills.”

“It’s a fairy tale set in our own New Pagans folk horror universe, pitting two cults against each other. The adults represent greed, decadence and violence. They will fight each other to the death for the trove of riches, but are usurped by the children watching from the sidelines. They are not so innocent as they’ve slipped a little poison in our drinks. Kind of like Hansel & Gretel pushing the witch into her own oven. Harsh, but we deserved it.”

‘Find Fault With me’ was mixed by Sam Petts Davies (Radiohead/Frank Ocean/Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and follows the release of their critically acclaimed debut album The Seed, The Vessel, The Roots and All, released in March earlier this year via Big Scary Monsters and featuring the stunning singles ‘Harbour‘, the fiery ‘Christian Boys‘ and the powerful ‘Yellow Room‘. The album was featured as Stereogum’s ‘Album of The Week‘ and has received glowing reviews across the board from the likes of Kerrang, The Line Of Best Fit, Brooklyn Vegan, NPR and more.

At radio, Steve Lamacq has displayed continued support for their music, giving the band frequent airplay and having featured ‘Yellow Room’ as ‘Record Of The Week’ on BBC 6 Music. In addition, the band have also received regular plays across BBC 6 Music andRadio 1 from the likes of Chris Hawkins, Daniel P Carter, Phil Taggart, Huw Stephens and Jack Saunders as well as John Kennedy at Radio X, BBC Introducing, Kerrang Radio, Amazing Radio and more.

New Pagans also closed 2020 by winning the award ‘Best Live Act’ at the NI Music Prize, cementing them as one of the most exciting and interesting rising acts, both sonically and visually. This year they have been nominated again but for ‘Best Album’ and will also be performing at the awards.

As a collective they offer a wealth of artistic scope from Lyndsey’s skills in Irish embroidery, and her deep historical knowledge, to bassist Claire’s visual artistry and talents as a director, and the musical experience of guitarists Cahir O’Doherty (Jetplane Landing, Fighting With Wire), Alan McGreevy and drummer Conor McAuley.
