Glasgow-based, singer-songwriter Kenny Lee Roberts is about to release a second studio album ‘No Talc on the Dancefloor’ on the 31st of March off the back of a run of live shows in 2022, including headlining at Glasgow’s iconic King Tuts venue and finishing the year off supporting Johnny Mac and the Faithful at St Luke’s, fresh from their UK wide tour with Rod Stewart.
The new album is the second studio album follows on from the well-received debut album ‘Exactly Different’ released last year. NTOTD sees Kenny Lee Roberts continuing to channel his musical influences over the years, with some upbeat horn and brass-driven songs inspired by the deep routed Northern Soul scene in the UK, as well as his early influences of Dexy’s and Van Morrison. These tracks, which are a joy to perform live, are coupled with songs drawn from his other great love of Americana, with Springsteen and Billy Joel leaving their imprint on his songwriting style.
Although there was a slight change of musical direction from the first to the new album, the constant of the legendary producer John McLaughlin remained, as a close working relationship was forged built on their shared musical tastes and vision for the tracks, as well as forming a great friendship and mirrored the sense of humour, which ensured the time in the recording studio was both productive and entertaining.
Kenny Lee Roberts took the time to put together a hand-selected group of talented musicians to form a fantastic blend and sound to showcase the tracks to a live audience.
One of the new tracks on the album features the musical icon that is Stuart “Woody” Wood of Bay City Rollers fame, who happened to be working on a project with his producer John. When he heard the track ‘Turn The Music Up’. Stuart loved the tune and was keen to get involved, eventually coming back to the studio to record lead guitar on this track, which was a real result and an absolute delight of a man to work with.
