Quadruple Juno Award-winning Canadian quintet The Sheepdogs have today announced their new album ‘Changing Colours’, set for release in the UK via Dine Alone Records.
In line with the news, the band are sharing buoyant new single, ‘Nobody’ – listen here
Following the album’s release, the Saskatoon rockers are due to bring their animated rock’n’roll to British shores once more in spring 2018, with full dates TBA shortly.
Proud purveyors of guitar-driven modern-day retro rock, The Sheepdogs have expanded their instrumentation on ‘Changing Colours’ to encompass more styles and hues, enhancing their beef-and-boogie riffs and rhythmic shuffles. Testament to this new instrumentation and the band’s animated musicianship, the last six tracks on the album were initially a medley. Bringing with it a glowing optimism and abundant sense of victory, new single ‘Nothing’ has a keen eye on the quintessentials of liberation: the road trip, long hair and free pursuit of happiness.
Of ‘Changing Colours’, the band notes; “This album has a much wider range of sounds on it: trombone, clarinet, latin percussion, pedal steel, fiddle and banjo all make an appearance. The title ‘Changing Colours’ really lends itself to these different sounds on the record.” They continue, “We were also lucky to work with newcomer Jim Bowskill whose guitar wizardry is almost outshone by his fine mandolin playing and singing.”
Formed in Saskatoon, The Sheepdogs have followed in the footsteps of Canadian rock legends including Neil Young, The Band and The Guess Who with a bold take on classic guitar rock and polished retro sound. The band came into the national spotlight in 2011 as the first unsigned band to appear on the cover of Rolling Stone, leading to a performance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. A live favourite, The Sheepdogs have played at numerous festivals and headlined tours across North America, including performances at Bonnaroo, Coachella, Lollapalooza, as well as opening for acts like Kings of Leon (also fans of the band), and sharing the stage with Jason Sudeikis, Will Forte and Justin Long at Stones Fest. For their fourth, self-titled LP release of 2015, The Sheepdogs worked with Patrick Carney of The Black Keys to produce the collection, which debuted at No. 1 on the Canadian Top 200 SoundScan Chart, and garnered three No. 1 singles. The band has also won four JUNO awards, and been nominated for seven (including three nods for ‘Rock Album Of The Year’ over their impressive career.
