REVIEW: THE SUPERMICKS – FOUND ME EP (2024)

Published:

The SuperMicks are a five-piece alternative upbeat bluesy rock band from Ramsgate, Kent, who release their debut EP `Found Me` this month. The band comprise of Wayne Jones (lead vocalist/guitar), Greg Edwards (bass), Dave Dorman (lead/rhythm guitar), James Reeve (rhythm guitar) and Dan Lee Kennard (drums).

This four-track extended play opens with `The Whiskey Said` an introspective slow burn musing which reflects on a relationship that maybe feels perfect but seems skewed when the narrator imbibes “the water of life.” There was a superb guitar solo in the latter part of this quite heartbreaking ballad like offering. We enjoy a rhythmic melodic rock out with `Let Me Know` which is about meeting somebody on a night out and trying to discover if the attraction is mutual. The chorus “uh haha`s” I have to say were quite addictive. The handclaps shared towards the end, i`m sure will have all and sundry joining in, in a live setting.

Title track `Found Me` is another thoughtful tale of a fragmented adolescent relationship that appears to have been positively renewed later in life. The backing “yeah yeah yeah`s” were simple but so effective on this appealing number. We have in `A Million Things` probably the heaviest number on this release, a contemplate meditation on the ups and downs of relationships.

The `Found Me EP` was my introduction to The SuperMicks and I have to say there was so much to enjoy. There`s thoughtful lyrics with catchy hooks and riffs on tracks that have choruses that tease you to sing along with. This extended play was produced by Louis Malagodi of the band Collateral, another superb rock outfit who also hail from the Garden of England.

On the strength of this EP, I’ll certainly be looking to see how this bluesy rock quintet evolves.
