Jackie Brutsche (aka Jack Torera) on vocals and guitar, Chris Rosales on drums and Sam Schmidiger on bass come together as The Jackets, a Swiss garage-punk female-fronted powerhouse trio who deliver a mix of sixties garage rock, punk and psychedelic vibes and are known for their high energetic live shows.
They have a new ten track long player `Intuition` released this month which comes five years since their 2019 release `Queen Of The Pill`.
The album opens with `Crossing Streets` which had a delightfully edgy Jefferson Airplane `White Rabbit` crossed with garage rock vibe about it. A real foot tapper to lead in on with its intricate guitar chords and shook tambourine. We enjoy a more driving racing offering with `Ours Forever` which tells a story of using this one evening as if it`s your last.
`Gambling Town` is a bouncy dance like retro number that almost warns of the dangers of going to a town that appears to be a kind of `Sin City` where anything could happen. There`s an almost surf like feel to `Coco Loco` in which the narrator entices their object of affection to come live with them. A number that will have you shouting out the title before the song concludes.
`Can’t Take It Back` is a more reflective musing on how the relator accepts that their actions screwed up a relationship but sadly it`s too late to repair the damage. There some wonderfully fuzzy riffs on `Lies` whose subject matter is explained in the title.
`I Tried` is a rolling rhythmic submission with a cracking guitar solo and had a hint of The Doors `Hello, I Love You` about it at times. Title track `Intuition` is a fast-paced punchy head rush of a number with some nice choppy guitar riffs regaling a tale of a relationship that seems to be on the wane.
`One Step Ahead` is another contemplative track which seems to tell of somebody who is a lone wolf but at the same times feels as if they are a maverick or rebel. A defiant number in many ways. This release closes out with `Master Plan` another expeditious composition with lyrics that encourage one and all to obey or follow the narrator.
If you love retro garage rock, you`ll love the Jackets and `Intuition` with its rhythmic thumping bass, pounding drums, complex guitar riffs and melodic vocals with some great backing harmonies. This opus runs at just over thirty minutes in length and leaves you wanting much, much more.
