REVIEW: THE DEVILS- DEVILS GOT IT (2025)

Published:

On their tour last year, The Black Crowes ended the show I saw with “God’s Got It,” and The Devils are clearly looking for redemption by adding their own take on it.

They need it because the harmonica on “Come Love” is filthy.

“Lonely for You Baby” sees a rock ‘n’ roll album break out. Whether they miss her or it’s all a ploy is unclear.

“Help Me Through the Day” lurks about like it just wants to get lost in the darkness tonight.

“That’s the Way to Get Along” adds some groovy soul as Erika Switchblade (probably not her real name) channels her inner Janis Joplin.

“You Gotta Take Sick and Die Some of These Days” is as simple and raw as any song from the early days of the blues.

While “Easy Baby” is all about its crunch, the vibe carries over to “Shade Tree Mechanic.”

“Everybody Loves a Winner” is a moment of tenderness. “When you lose, you lose alone,” sings Switchblade, and loneliness is surely at the heart of this.

As raw as the blues gets, The Devils have worked with all kinds of people in their near-decade together, but here on Devils Got It, they find something as primal as anything since Robert Johnson went down to the crossroads and did his deal.

Indeed, it all sounds so filthy that Beelzebub might just give it back. There’s always something especially primal about a duo, but with The Devils, that’s even more true.

Devils Got It? Damn straight.
