REVIEW: ROLLA – WE OWE YOU NOTHING (2025)

Published:

Rolla’s We Owe You Nothing is brimming with confidence and pure Mancunian swagger. It’s got that “Nice planet. We’ll take it” attitude, and you can feel it from the opening moments. “Come out and stop me,” sings James Gilmore on the title cut —there’s no backing down here.

“It Ain’t Easy” is a massive moment. Mark my words: when their time comes, there won’t be a stadium big enough to contain it. The sheer size of the track is undeniable.

Their latest single, “Beautiful Lie,” is a masterclass in build-up. It’s anthemic, and let’s be honest—there’s a touch of Oasis in there. So what? If you’re going to take notes, take them from the best.

Elsewhere, much of the EP carries a distinct Black Rebel Motorcycle Club vibe—if BRMC had been raised under the relentless North West drizzle. That energy pulses through “The Slide,” where Luke McConnell and Tom Paddon truly shine.

Their debut EP was impossible not to love, but We Owe You Nothing—the first with new drummer Ryan Ward—feels like a serious step up. The hooks are sharper, the songwriting is stronger, and there’s a new level of maturity in their sound.
