Time spent rehearsing and touring, in support of New Jersey`s Night Windows 2024’s `In Memories` long player, led to an outpouring of ideas and inspiration from band members Ben Hughes (guitar, vocals, keys), Adam Smith (bass, keys) and Tad Lecuyer (drums, vocals) that then led them to record their latest EP `Nonsense` and actively work in the studio with plans of releasing a steady flow of music this year.
This three track extended play opens with `Your Phone Call` which is a gentle tender reflection on maybe a relationship that`s either run it`s course or that something more significant has happened and the preserved message is a lasting reminder of the demise of somebody close. The keys, steady percussive beat and sweet vocal harmonies add a further delightful poignancy to this number that`s left for your own interpretation.
`Baseball Cards` is a title that`s a kind of “catch all” for reminiscence and reflection. The cards signify memories of players, teams and achievements shared almost as a rite of passage from Father or Mother to child. A warm melodic rhythmic musical offering with an observational contemplation on parenthood shared throughout.
The final cut is `Boring You To Death` which seems to be a recognition of disinterest possibly fatigue with friends maybe even life but deep down trying to change this perception. The accompanying corresponding tones kind of mirror the absorbed slight melancholia shared. Another track that is left for you to analyse in your own way.
Although the `Nonsense` EP only runs at just over eleven minutes, there`s so much packed into the six-hundred and seventy five seconds shared. The three numbers will leave you with not only plenty of food for thought afterwards but will also raise you up and take you down during their lifespan.
This being my introduction to the trio, I really look forward to what`s to follow from Night Windows and am sure that you will too.
