Model Child is the indie art-rock project of Danny Parker, who learnt his trade in DC’s punk scene before relocating to Los Angeles with a group of fellow musicians, leading him to his first solo undertaking as Model Child. `Tilt`, the latest EP from Model Child, is a collaborative effort featuring Rusty Santos (Panda Bear, Black Dice), Owen Pallett (Arcade Fire), Josh Diamond (Elliott Smith, Gang Gang Dance), and Jon Nellen (Big Thief, Ginla).
`Cherish You` leads us in and it`s a synth driven track where the lyrics have an uneasy edge about them and feel as if they are alluding to a kind of relationship built on trust that isn`t quite convincing with vocals that mirror this sense of apprehension. The irregularity of modern life is alluded to in `Everything Will Change` a deeply haunting introspective ballad like offering.
`Do That Dance` has a rhythmic electronic beat on which I read that the singer critiques the faceless march of power structures. This extended play closes with `For You` a fairly hypnotic listen with a recurring beat and vocals that are almost spat out at times throughout.
`Tilt` was a brief but enjoyable introduction to Danny Parker and Model Child and on the strength of this, further offerings will be warmly anticipated.
