Bloodbound’s “Tales From The North” takes power metal to its peak, delivering an unrelenting, fist-pumping experience that will surely satisfy fans of the genre. Back in 2016, when they opened for Sabaton, I noted that their set was entertaining, with anthemic tracks like “Metalheads Unite” and “In The Name Of Metal” that overflowed with cheese, in the best way possible. Now, seven years later, they have presented us with an epic concept album centred around the Viking era, and it’s safe to say, they’ve hit their high spot (and some high notes!).

Right from the opening title track, the album sets the stage for an immersive power metal journey. “Drink With The Gods” and “Odin’s Prayer” may not offer any surprises, but that’s precisely what power metal enthusiasts crave – an unrelenting and unapologetic power metal attack. “The Ravens Cry” further emphasizes this approach, with an over-the-top nature that’s hard not to get swept up in. “Mimir’s Crystal Eye” takes the intensity to another level, showcasing the band’s mastery over orchestral arrangements and keyboard flourishes.

Throughout the album, Bloodbound showcases their sheer skill, and tracks like “Land Of Heroes” and “Sail Among The Dead” prove to be some of their finest work, delivering a glorious blend of riffs and melody. “Sword And Axe” and “1066” continue to showcase the impressive vocal range of Patrik Selleby, leaving no doubt about his prowess as a power metal vocalist.

Power metal is a genre that doesn’t hold back; it’s unashamedly bombastic, and that’s precisely what makes it brilliant. “Tales From The North” fully embraces the power metal spirit, and it doesn’t get much better than this.
