Hyperdog who comprise of Mario Sanchez, Hannes Arnezender and Evren Aricanli are an emerging trio from Linz, Austria who blend phased-out garage rock with eccentric synths and lo-fi drum loops. They released their debut album `Frog Mountain` in April and have a new EP `Tales from the Mountain` out this month.
This four-track extended play opens with `Knife` with it`s rhythmic rolling beat with synths and vocals that are near enough yelled atop with lyrics that might be a metaphor for mental health issues. We have in `Not Cool` a track which races along and refers to somebody who is so conceited and arrogant that they don`t realise that everybody else despises them.
`Sugar Rush` a sudden and brief burst of energy supposedly experienced after the consumption of food or drink with a high sugar content is kind of mirrored in this rapid offering where the subject is addicted to the outcome of such an event. We close out with `Under the cherry tree` a chilled instrumental with keys and birdsong that calms us down after the previous three compositions.
`Tales from the Mountain` is an amusing and entertaining listen which runs at nine minutes in total and as the band have shared is catchy, quirky, and fast.
