Experimental London post-punk/noise trio Girls In Synthesis release a new four track extended play `Die Leere` this month which follows on from last year’s second LP `The Rest Is Distraction`.

`I Know No Other Way` kicks us off and it`s a track that races along with a driving bass line, guitar riffs and pounding drums with vocals that are shared atop in a kind of swaggering effect. A song that has a fairly melodic texture and which I found myself singing along to the strap line after a couple of plays. We have in `I Know No Other Dub` just what you`d expect, an extended dub version of the opening track which did have a fairly captivating appeal.

`Sinking Feeling` opens with a thirty second contorted instrumental soundscape before a tribal like drum beat lays a platform for a lyrical diatribe that is forcefully shared with what sounds like distorted guitar chord riffs shared underneath and alongside. The repeated line of “look what we`ve become” develops into an almost hypnotic trancelike mantra. This four tracker closes with `Against The Seething` which has a kind of dystopian feel about it. There`s almost a spoken word stream of consciousness communicated over a bleak and at times twisted musical auditory sonic landscape.

Although I’d heard of Girls In Synthesis, I must admit that `Die Leere` was my introduction to the joys of this trio and hopefully this EP is a taster for what`s to come. In the meantime, I’ll be familiarising myself with their back catalogue.
