Planet Rock described Kira Mac as “rock n roll livewires” and made their debut single ‘One Way Ticket’Track of the Week within just two weeks of release. The single then leapt to the Planet Rock A-playlist, has now topped the 28-day April Playlist, and has received rave reviews and feedback.
“To get Track of the Week was one thing,” guitarist Joe Worrall told Devil’s Gate Music, “but to then be added to the playlist alongside some of the best bands of the past 30 years was just unbelievable. Don’t think that we have still quite wrapped our heads round it yet, ha ha! I wrote that demo to ‘One Way Ticket’ in my Mum and Dad’s house: to think it’s getting played on Planet Rock to hundreds of thousands of people is, yeah, mind-blowing!”
Named after their frontwoman, Kira Mac are an outfit built on straight-up old-school blues rock riffs given modern edge, a tonne of fresh flair, soul and intense double shots of rock ‘n’ roll. Using twinned powerhouse vocals plus a killer guitar lead, they form a force to be reckoned with.
‘Dead Man Walking’ hits hard from the first and is fronted by Kira’s powerful vocals, with rock rawness giving them edge and impact, but her power and range keep control, rock goddess-style — to say nothing of her stage presence.
Regarding the song, Joe Worrall told DGM, “‘Dead Man Walking’ is one of those songs that has evolved over time from the original demo I sent to Kira and the guys to getting it into the studio: it’s almost a completely different song. It’s got a monster riff and a huge chorus coupled with an unreal vocal showcase and you’ve got an epic rock song.”
“It’s big. It’s really big,” agrees fellow guitarist Alex Novakovic, “and it’s got a swagger and attitude that I think a lot of people will vibe with.”
“As soon as we wrote this,” Kira Mac herself explains, with gusto and glee, “we knew it had to be a single — and here it is! It’s a girl power anthem 100%: just a bit more angry!”
Their full studio debut album ‘Chaos is Calling’ is due for release in Autumn 2022.
“It’s been in the making from 2015 when Joe and I met,” Kira reflects “It’s been a really long time coming (and we’ve had such an incredible time writing and making it on its little journey) that we hope everyone loves listening as much as we loved making it! I think this album has a song for everyone, whether you like rock or blues music or not — and above everything else, it’s us, and it’s honest.”
“The first two singles definitely set the tone for the album: we were going for an ‘all killer, no filler’ vibe, so we deliberately picked the most party ones, but there’s a few on there to level out the dynamic.”
Kira Mac have also announced the dates for their first touring — including support, festivals, and headlining — and are looking forward to all with eager anticipation, determined to put on great live shows.
“We’ve been waiting for the right time to finally travel to some amazing places to showcase our little songs we wrote in our bedrooms,” says Kira, “and it’s unreal to think that were going to get to play and meet all the amazing people who support our music. We’ll be bringing a rock n roll party!”
In May, Kira Mac will be supporting Ricky Warwick. They’ll play The Booking Hall, Dover on 19th May; then Nuneaton’s Premier Live Music Venue, Queens Hall on 21st May; and the North of England’s finest intimate music venue, The Picturedrome, Holmfirth on 22nd May. After that, on 2nd July, Kira Mac will support Bad Touch and Revival Black at Waterloo Music Bar, Blackpool.
On Friday 29th July, Kira Mac will play the independent grassroots classic rock festival, Steelhouse Festival, held at Aberbeeg in South Wales, the site making it the highest festival in the UK! On 2nd December, the band will also be playing the annual rock extravaganza Planet Rockstock, at the newly refurbished Trecco Bay Holiday Park in South Wales.
What’s more, as the band say, “With a brand-new album coming out in the Autumn of 2022, it makes sense to promote it with 11 dates through England, Wales and Scotland (Ireland we’re comin’ atcha soon!)”
