NEW SINGLE AND ALBUM FOR CLANG GROUP

Published:

THE CLANG GROUP, the band lead by musician and producer CLIVE LANGER returns with a new single this week.

A founder member of pioneering Liverpool art-rockers Deaf School, Langer is noted for a string of production credits with the likes of Dexys Midnight Runners (the no.1 single and album ‘Come On Eileen’ and Too-Rye-Ay), David Bowie, Elvis Costello, Madness, Morrissey, The Teardrop Explodes, The Rockingbirds and, more recently, Fat White Family.

‘Page 1’ is the first single to be taken from the album New Clang, which follows belatedly on from the 2016 debut album Practice, and finds Langer joined by Deaf School members John Wood (aka Max Ripple) and Gregg Braden, along with Jamie Reynolds, former bassist of ‘Golden Skans’ hitmakers Klaxons.

A deeply personal but incredibly vibrant album New Clang catches Clive in reflective mode following his 70th birthday and addresses the process of ageing and the state of the world as well as confronting his own addiction.

Speaking of the single, Langer states: “Well, ‘Page 1’ is a reflection, a look at time spent and the difference between taking a right turn or a left turn can make in life. Decisions made. It’s celebrating a life, but wondering if there were any missed experiences or opportunities ; ultimately saying ‘tragedy and loss followed his soul but he never let them take their toll’.”

Released through Fretsore Records, ‘Page 1’ is available to stream/download here.

The Clang Group will launch the album with a special performance at West Hampstead Arts Club, London on Friday 21 February 2025 – tickets
