‘Stranded Assets’ by My Glass World is released on 7 March 2025 on LuxuryNoise Records, the band’s seventh album will be preceded by the single ‘You Can Feel It Coming’ on 6 December 2024. On a dozen tracks, the album’s lyrics come loaded with depth and meaning, and are sharp of teeth. ‘Stranded Assets’ casts a creative but also despairing world around us, but is cut through with both an air of protest, and a desire for meaningful change. My Glass World is the invention of composer, singer, musician Jamie Telford, who has written and recorded alongside a range of talents from Paul Weller to Richard Strange. Alongside, working with him Sean Read plays Sax, and who is also adept in the Studio and worked with a wide range of talents including Edwyn Collins, Dexys Midnight Runners and Dave Gahan and the Soulsavers to name but a few.
Previous tracks from the band have been championed on radio by, amongst others, GuyGarvey and the late great Janice Long. The music here exists in its own ecosystem veering from the stomping and sax-driven, to chilling, at times claustrophobic, and eerie synth-scapes, without ever losing impact or verve.
Lyrically, Jamie draws from politics, people, perseverance, and observations on the dark human experience in the cost of living crisis era. ‘Stranded Assets’ are investments that have lost value or are no longer profitable due to market dynamics, and the vicissitudes of a capricious world. In this age of globally changing political landscapes, foodbanks, and the rise of the algorithm, this is perhaps a timely record. There’s a real clarity of delivery, the words matter: “Politics and close control, are guaranteed to take your soul”…
‘Stranded Assets’ follows in the footsteps of ‘Assorted Marvels’, which showcased the creative synergy between Jamie and Sean (sax and woodwinds). who collaborated with Jamie on production and also mixed the album.
Jamie said of the new album, “Sometimes you write material that doesn’t fit together as an album. The songs on ‘Stranded Assets’ however are the opposite, and it’s perhaps because a lot of them were conceived independently, and I have had a bit more time to reflect on them. There’s more ‘mood’ evident in the songs and, because Sean and myself have worked together on four albums now, there’s an ease to the way these tracks have come together.”
Whilst that ‘ease’ in the recording process has allowed a cohesive and compelling album to emerge, ‘Stranded Assets’ delivers real lyrical heft as well as a deep and atmospheric musicality.
