Make Jezebels Smile

You can call them sexy if you want to

Australian quartet The Jezebels have revealed the brand new video for ‘Smile’, following the welcome news that Heather Shannon (keyboards) has been given the all-clear after her six-month treatment for ovarian cancer.

‘Smile’ premiered with Pop Matters who said, “Smile is latently ferocious, waiting until just the right moment to bite with swirling guitars and crashing percussion operating under lead singer Hayley Mary’s misanthropic howl.”

The video sees Hayley Mary taking the walk of shame, or stride of pride, throughout instantly recognisable London locations. On the video Hayley explains, “We wanted something simple that allowed the song to just tell its story. The walk-of-shame idea just seemed perfect. I mean, what is a walk of shame…?

“Depends on who’s walking it, where they’ve been the night before and what events in their lives led them there. You might have a skip in your step ‘cause you got laid, a mild feeling of shame or just want to bury yourself in the earth for all eternity. There was something nice about how that idea mirrored the conflicting voices of the song; the potential for in-the-moment fun, and deep long-lasting sadness that always exist at the same time.”

The release of ‘Smile’ comes with the announcement of the band’s rescheduled Australian and American tour in support of their recently released their album Synthia. With the great news of Heather Shannon’s recovery after a lengthy time spent undergoing chemotherapy, the band are now fit and ready to get back on the road to tour their latest, critically acclaimed album.

The band will play an eight-date tour of Australia from September to October and will play 18 dates in the US throughout November and December calling at all major cities. The Jezabels’ full tour dates can be found at www.thejezabels.com and details of UK dates will follow shortly.
