Louis’ Small Part

Published:

London-based Dubliner Louis Brennan has released the video for his poignant debut single, ‘Bit Part Actor’, taken from his upcoming debut album Dead Capital, which is due for release early next year.

The darkly emotive folk singer laconically recounts a period of his life filled with bitterness, despondency and anguish in the goosebump-inducing song, imbued with the striking honesty and black humour that peppers the whole album.

The accompanying video, shot in Canvey Island, features the celebrated anti-comic Ed Aczel as it follows the lonely steps of an ageing business man passing through an empty, industrial town. It’s a quiet and intimate journey, evoking feelings of melancholy and mystery.

Brennan’s sound calls to mind Father John Misty, Conor Oberst, John Grant and Johnny Cash with the lyrical command of troubadours like Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave.

Creating his own brand of thinking man’s folk, Louis’ music is deep and rich in emotion, marking him out as an artist of remarkable talent and immeasurable depth of mind. His lyrics are also razor-sharp, bittersweet and often full of wry humour.

Louis will be playing a number of dates in London this autumn including Paper Dress Vintage tomorrow night with Bella Spinks and a date supporting The Cactus Blossoms at Bush Hall on Monday 13th November.
