Acclaimed artist-writer Kashus Culpepper has delivered a three-song Apple Music Sessions, which includes a cover of the Isley Brothers 1959 staple ‘Shout’ with pals and former tour mates Charles Wesley Godwin and Wyatt Flores. Doubling down on what NPR characterised as his work being “genre-wise so sonically expansive,” the Alabama-native’s Apple Music Sessions also includes reimagined versions of two of his earliest songs, the fan-favourites ‘Jenni’ and ‘Out Of My Mind’.
Together Apple Music and Culpepper transformed his selected songs into jazzier renditions with the use of horns and a prominent rhythm section – leaning into his varied influences and appreciation of musical icons like Ella Fitzgerald. With Culpepper slowing the tempo and swapping instrumentation on the new songs, today’s release exemplifies what Billboard described as “his kaleidoscope of music residing at the central point of various genres” that has “allowed him to traverse various musical communities.”
Today’s release follows his lauded debut album Act I released in January, and its infectious seasonal addendum, Act I: Summer Nights. In just over two years since his first-ever release, Culpepper has compiled a long list of accolades. Touted by Elton John as “if Bill Withers made country music” (here), and described by John Mayer as “as good as it gets,” Culpepper has made appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, CBS Saturday Sessions, The Kelly Clarkson Show, NPR World Cafe and The Tamron Hall Show.

ABOUT KASHUS CULPEPPER
Alabama-born artist-writer Kashus Culpepper encompasses the sound of the South. A student and reverent purveyor of Southern music – country, soul, blues, folk and rock – Culpepper found his voice in church as young as five years old. It wasn’t until 2020 that Culpepper went from listener to performer, picking up a guitar and learning cover songs to play at barrack bonfires in Rota, Spain during his deployment with the Navy. Covers soon became originals, and once he landed home on U.S. shores, Kash played dive bars up and down the Mississippi Gulf Coast, making a name for himself with the fresh-yet-reminiscent sound that oozes from his very being.
