Jarrod’s Christmas Time

Published:

Following the September of his critically acclaimed album ‘Ready The Horses’, Jarrod Dickenson proudly presents the video for his new festive single ‘Christmas Time In the City’, along with the B-side, a cover of  Charles Brown’s ‘Please Come Home For Christmas’.

Jarrod recorded the songs at SonyTree Studios in Nashville, once again playing live with the full band. For the original track ‘Christmas Time In The City’, Jarrod wanted to evoke the iconic image of New York City during winter time. “It’s an incredible place year around, but during the Christmas season it is nothing short of magical. The entire city is dressed up in lights and wreaths. Buskers in the subway and on the street corners are singing holiday classics. There’s an excitement in the air that’s shared by locals and tourists alike. You can’t help but smile as you walk down the streets. It’s without question my favourite time of year.”

Everyone has their favourite Christmas time tune, and for Jarrod that was the Charles Brown classic ‘Please Come Home For Christmas’. Jarrod had wanted to record a version of his own for years, “the original version by Charles Brown is one of the best vocal performances I’ve ever heard. So smooth and so soulful, and all of us in the studio had such a blast laying it down. Nothing warms the soul quite like a little Christmas blues.”

Storytelling is something of a Texas tradition. Tall hats and even taller tales are woven into the fabric of The Lone Star State, and singer-songwriter, Jarrod Dickenson can spin a yarn with the best of them. Hailing from Waco, now based in Nashville via Brooklyn, Jarrod spends most of his time on the road bringing his own particular brand of soulful Americana to music loving audiences around the globe.

With such mature songwriting, it’s hard to believe ‘Ready The Horses’ was only album two for the sharp dressing and skillful pickin’ singer-guitarist. Jarrod embodies the originality and style of a bygone era with vintage-inspired-hats and traditional southern sensibilities. The laid back writing found throughout ‘Ready The Horses’ is reminiscent of Gram Parsons, and Jarrod’s vocal flair has been compared to both a young Johnny Cash and Tom Waits.

Cutting his teeth for 10 years on the Texas and New York circuits, Jarrod’s breakout performances at Glastonbury and Larmer Tree Festival, along with tours supporting legendary artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Don McLean, The Waterboys and Jools Holland earned him a formidable and loyal fan base across the globe, including BBC radio hosts Dermot O’Leary, Cerys Matthews, Huey Morgan, Janice Long, Robert Elms and Alex Lester. In October 2017 he enjoyed a successful UK headline tour celebrating the release of ‘Ready The Horses’.
