Atreyu have today released the final installment of their three-part EP series. ‘A Torch In The Dark’ EP paves the way for the band’s ‘The Beautiful Dark of Life’ album, which will be out in December via Spinefarm.
The EP features a new love song ‘Forevermore’, for which the band have released a music video. All five members channeled their individual emotions into the lyrics, which coalesce into one unified voice. Frontman Brandon Saller labels the track, “The most vulnerable, tender moment this band has ever had.”
The ‘A Torch In The Dark’ EP continues the journey started by ‘The Hope of a Spark‘ EP and furthered with ‘The Moment You Find Your Flame‘ EP, and leads into Atreyu’s forthcoming album ‘The Beautiful Dark of Life’. The record is the culmination of all three EP releases, which represent pieces of a puzzle, collectively amounting to something far greater.
‘A Torch In The Dark’ is about self-discovery, finding your purpose and confidence, and your future again. A victory through the shadows and conquering the darkness – for now.
The previously-released opener ‘(i)’ – it’s anthemic chorus beseeching ‘Tell me who the fuck have I been / After all this time / It’s a lie’ – finds Saller wrestling with deep-rooted questions of identity, born from an inability to remember his childhood. “Many people remember these moments and experiences that shaped who they are in very formative years,” he says. “But for me, that period of my life is one big void. There are things about me as a person and things I do to this day that I don’t like, but I don’t understand why.”
‘Death Or Glory’ seeks the strength to fight another day when ‘I don’t recognize who I’ve become / A burning sun’, eventually finding it in the knowledge that ‘I don’t fear the death of my story’. And ‘Come Down’ closes this collection with a gang-vocal bridge speaking to the universality of its themes when it playfully asks ‘Have we all have we all lost our minds?’.
