Birmingham six piece rock band Sunshine Frisbee Laserbeam are pleased to reveal the video for their new single ‘Apocalypse’ which is out now on all good DSPs.
The track is the latest to be taken from their forthcoming new album, Mortuary Pantomime, set for release on 4th August 2023 and available to preorder from Friday 30th June, with the band today also revealing the artwork and tracklist for the record.
Recorded, mixed and mastered by Tom Livemore at Backbeat Studios, forthcoming album Mortuary Pantomime is the first new material from the band in 5 years.
Serving as the opening track to the new record, new single ‘Apocalypse’ is another slice of racing, layered college rock from the band that tips a hat to the weaving, progressive hypnotic rock of Yeasayer with a dose of The Stooges and Dead Kennedys menace thrown in for good measure—the perfect encapsulation of the album’s juxtaposed melancholy, dark-humoured lyrics and upbeat instrumentation.
Commenting on the new single, lead vocalist Pete Dixon says: “First of all this song has nothing to do with the pandemic. It was written whilst we were doing our festival run in 2019. ‘Apocalypse’ is about being a creative person and how it can often feel like whatever you’re doing isn’t as fun or meaningful as your peers, but f*ck it, enjoy yourself, it’s not the end of the world…yet.”
Formed in 2013, everyone’s favourite weird-on-purpose rock band are finally back with a roaring follow up to 2018’s critically acclaimed Blackout Cowboy album. Forthcoming new record Mortuary Pantomime is an 8 track, sub-30-minute album, whittled down from around 20 songs to create the most concise set of material from the band yet, never outstaying their welcome, and leaving the listener always wanting more.
The band will be playing a run of August/September 2023 UK headline tour dates in support of the album, with tickets on sale now (see below for listings).
New album Mortuary Pantomime is released 4th August 2023
