Italian one-woman-blues-band ELLI DE MON has unveiled a first video from here new album.
‘Blue Spirit Blues’ is lifted from the repertoire of American blues legend Bessie Smith and is taken from Elli’s new album Countin’ The Blues.
Out on 18 June through Area Pirata, the album is a companion piece to Elli’s book Countin’ The Blues – Indomitable Women and comprises her interpretations of songs by Ma Rainey, Memphis Minnie, Elizabeth Cotten and others.
Hailing from the northern city of Vicenza, Elli accompanies herself on acoustic and electric guitar, lapsteel, organ, drums, bells and sitar.
Elli says about the song “Sometimes you forget about them. They live hidden in dark places and they move very silently. But you can feel them and you can’t escape… and they get to hurt you so deeply. The BLUE DEVILS. Well, you can recognize them and this is the first step to get free. Bessie Smith knew it and she burnt her demons out. This is her song and I tried to make it mine.”
