Foo’s Man does it in an intimate setting – and Garry has a watch
A venue that holds around 200 people on the hottest day of the year and it’s packed to the rafters seems like hell on earth, but throw in Foo Fighter Chris Shiflett playing tracks from his new solo album and it makes complete sense to be there.
The evening opened with Sam Palladio who was taking a few days out from the stunning ‘Nashville In Concert’ tour and I must say his 40 minute set was thoroughly enjoyable…..I’m a fan of his music and so were most in the room (apart from a handful of ignorant so & so’s by the bar) and the mix of solo songs and tunes from the brilliant ‘Nashville’ TV show went down a storm.
Then it was time for the headline act…..Chris Shiflett has recently released his new solo album ‘West Coast Town’ (its in my top three albums of 2017) and decided to stop off in London for a couple of solo gigs.
What a proper delight last nights show turned out to be, we were treated to most of the new album such as ‘Sticks & Stones’, ‘Goodnight Little Rock’, ‘The Girls Already Gone’ & ‘Cherry’….some Merle Haggard classics and a whole bunch of real amusing stories too.
I’d Interviewed Chris earlier in the day and even though a little jet-lagged he was in fine form during our chat and even more so during the show……the memorable line ‘Clap you Motherfuckers’ that was a guitar solo’ had the audience in fits of laughter…..this set the whole tone for what was without doubt one of my favourite gigs of 2017 so far.
The Foo Fighters head out on the festival circuit but Chris told me he is keen to bring his own band back to do a proper tour…..I for one can’t wait.
Sometimes you wonder whether a six hour journey there & back to London midweek is worth it…..on this occasion…..it really, really was well worth the trip.
