Brighton punks ready with new EP
“Always writing about my own personal issues is quite a self-involved act, and I just hope that these songs do actually reach out on a personal level to people other than myself,” declares James Dagg, vocalist of Brighton pop punks Six Time Champion, discussing the origin of the title for newly announced EP ‘More Than Me’. “The artwork signifies how everything around you can become overwhelming and force you into this overly self-involved state of mind”, he continues, as the band gear up to not only release the five tracker, but also generally get their heads back in the game following a period of respite.
Now completed by guitarists Richard Titheradge and Hus Hodja, Bassist Steve Isted and Drummer Richard Titheradge, the line-up has altered since their two prior releases: 2013’s ‘Old Ends, Loose Ends’ and 2014’s ‘Expecting Honesty’. “We’ve not really been active in the scene and have dropped off the radar a bit in the last 9 months or so. We had a line up change after our tour with Homebound last year and had some down time, then spent the majority of the second half of 2015 writing etc. But playing shows has always been the thing we’ve enjoyed most about being in this band so we’re looking forward to getting back out on the live circuit off the back of this release.”
Recorded at The Outhouse with John Mitchell (Architects, Lower Than Atlantis), ‘More Than Me’ sees the quintet slickening up, whilst still retaining the somewhat aggressive edge that has become their hallmark. Reminiscent of local pals Roam and the likes of Stick To Your Guns, Knuckle Puck and Boston Manor, the band state that: “The UK is producing such a high standard of music we knew that to still be relevant after the time we’d taken out we had to come back with something strong. We put a lot into this and I feel like we’ve done that so I guess now it’s up to everyone else to decide!”
