UK metal outfit, Cage Fight – fronted by vocal powerhouse, Rachel Aspe – have today released a new version of recent single / video, ‘Oxygen‘; this latest take on their top-streaming track has been re-worked by Kabbel – the French multi-instrumentalist, based in Sweden who has previously collaborated with artists such as Perturbator, Cemetery Skyline and Imer6ia.
The original version of ‘Oxygen’ (“about a fight against time, when everything becomes overwhelming and suffocating” – Rachel)appears on the band’s latest / second studio album, ‘Exuvia‘, released via Spinefarm on May 1st 2026.
When discussing a fresh interpretation of the fast-paced, energetic ‘Oxygen’, the musicians agreed “that a hard electronic version would be awesome.Given that we’re playing multiple festivals in France, and it’s Rachel’s home country, we thought it would be great to collaborate with a French artist, and Kabbel couldn’t have been more perfect. His work on ‘Oxygen’ captures the intensity, the stressful feeling of the original, but his skilful production and eclectic synth take the song into an entirely new realm. Recorded by Sam Bloor (Graphic Nature, Dream State) and mixed by Jim Pinder (Sleep Token, Malevolence), ‘Exuvia‘ retains the raw, hardcore heart of Cage Fight, whilst alsoexploring more multi-layered terrains, making the music sound bigger, tighter, more epic.
Throughout the album, the bandprove their desire to experiment… and have a bit of fun, too – ‘Pick Your Fighter’ is inspired by French pop number ‘Et C’est Parti…‘ by Nâdiya, who recently revisited the song.
The bulk of the lyrics on ‘Exuvia‘ are written by Rachel, and the results are deeply personal; expansive final track, ‘Élégie’, is about losing her grandfather and the regret that can come from things left unsaid.
On ‘Pig‘, meanwhile, she calls out the creepy men who send women unsolicited messages online, while the title track was inspired by her grandmother, currently battling cancer, who also contributed to the lyrics.
