Nottingham Punks release new video
“As cliché as it sounds, we just want to play our music to as many people as possible before we keel over and die,” grins Tim Bell, guitarist of Nottingham quintet Catch Fire, a posi pop-punk proposition formed earlier this year from the ashes of local heroes, Layby; “We have a burning desire to write and play music. It’s really as simple as that. I don’t think any of us can see ourselves doing anything other than this.”
The good news is, with their debut E.P The Distance I Am From You boasting bangers as infectious as lead single and future floor filler, ‘Bad Behaviour’, and the soaring, emo-tinged‘Anaesthetic’, it’s not likely that the lads of Catch Fire (rounded off by vocalist Miles Kent, guitarist/ vocalist Neal Arkley, drummer Ash Wain and bassist Joseph Ryan Askew) will need to consider doing anything else, anytime soon.
Catch Fire will team up with rising European label Rude Records (Set It Off, Zebrahead, Blood Youth, Light Years, Knuckle Puck) for the release of The Distance I Am From You,and will be looking to make their mark on the touring circuit in 2016, hopefully in more appropriate company than in their prior incarnation. Tim recalls: “The area we live in is flooded with heavier bands, and we [Layby] often found ourselves opening up for 50 year old metalheads in a room sparsely populated with middle aged bikers sporting Alice Cooper t-shirts…”
We would be remiss to not highlight that the Notts quintet do not – NOT – take their name from The Hunger Games franchise. No, that would be daft. Rather, their moniker was inspired by guitarist Neal Arkley and his, ahem, hair colour. “Neal is ginger, and there isn’t a day that goes by where we don’t verbally assault him for it, though we know we shouldn’t,”says Tim. “Neal walked into practice one day, and Ash said “Neal, I think your head’s caught fire”. That’s it. Band name sorted… we don’t have anything against gingers by the way, just to clear that up!”
Dubious nomenclature aside, Catch Fire are gearing up for an explosive year, with The Distance I Am From You the ideal incendiary device. Soon, their musical cause will march to victory and topple the Capitol once and for all. May the odds be forever… Wait, wrong press release.
