The Sunset Donkeys is an English/ American Rock Band featuring Chris Constantinou, Preston Heyman, Hal Lindes and Glen Lynch. Their debut single ‘Setting It All On Fire’ is made available TODAY 1st November on Cleopatra Records. The band’s musical history draws upon the hybrid influences of Rock / Punk / Funk, Rhythm and Blues and Folk, Post Punk, Pop Punk, Pop, working class British pub rock/folk.
Their music is summed up as “The bastard love child of British Invasion having a one-night stand with the deep south, and being raised in a Detroit R ‘n B Orphanage”. The Sunset Donkeys offer instantly recognizable, anthemic songs, soaring choruses, catchy punching riffs, melodies that entrance. Lyrics that often reflect English and American culture, lifestyle, social observations, personal / social class experiences, though sometimes anarchist/ iconoclastic the songs are mostly upbeat, positive alcohol soaked, bruised, battered yet laced with eternal optimism.
The songs are often grounded in the very real everyday experiences of the working/ underclass. Songs that sometimes are majestically raw /savage emotionally soar backed by scores that highlight the depth of musical talent and craftsmanship the band possess and carried by the unique vocals of frontman Lynch … intense, soulful sometimes powerful bluesy growling, other times a tender gruffness to a soaring high, dry note delivered with empathy and angst.
With influences taking in The Who, The Small Faces, The Kinks, The Clash, The Rolling Stones, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, The Animals, The Sunset Donkeys have emerged with a sound and a swagger all of their own. ‘Setting It All On Fire’ is just the start, with more EPs and an album planned for next year.
