BAND OF THE DAY: THE GALLERY

Published:

THE GALLERY come at you from Wakefield with their own blend of Alternative Rock peppered with post-punk nihilism and a slew of razor-sharp hooks. The raucous young upstarts have just released their blistering new single, Pesticide, out now via Animal Farm.

Formed in 2017, four schoolmates – Joe Anderson-Smith (guitar), Sam Hawcroft (bass), Matthew Rees (vox) and Ben Whiteley (drums) raided their collections of genre-defining albums by Joy Division, Nirvana, Jeff Buckley and David Bowie to formulate a musical vocabulary that expresses their discontent with the music, politics and social issues of our times.

With a manifesto prompted by the group’s absolute boredom and distain with generic guitar bands, THE GALLERY passionately display a love of inventive guitar work and distorted bass hooks all injected with energetic social commentary. The end result is something real and fresh, sacrificing perfection for authenticity.

After selling out headline shows at 350+ capacity venues across Yorkshire, and supporting fellow alternative bands Pretty Vicious and The Academic, the rising quartet have been hotly-tipped by Futuresound and BBC Introducing, earning them festival appearances at Live at Leeds 2017Tramlines 2017 & 2018 and Kendal Calling 2018. With shows in the works to support the single, and further festival appearances in the pipeline, 2019 is heating up for THE GALLERY.
