“An uptempo country shuffle, I’d Rather Be Alone is a song for the introverted and the socially-fatigued. The lyrics long for a little piece and quiet against a lively backdrop of players.
I wrote this song as an ode to solitude in a time pre-pandemic when I struggled to find time to re-charge. Although nowadays, I find irony in the large amounts of time I’ve spent on my own over the years, missing my friends, family and my band.
I think we can agree on how common it is to feel overwhelmed by our lives at times. Public figures and artists have opened up about ‘burn-out’ and more public discussions have been made on the social and health benefits of setting aside time for ourselves in order to replenish our energy.
My intention for this song was to provide some re-assurance that the need for alone-time is totally valid. From a personal experience, time to rest and reflect allows me to show up as the best version of mysef. I hope the song motivates other people to create space for themselves too.” -Sean
