BAND OF THE DAY: KILL BIRDS

Published:

Today, Los Angeles based band Kills Birds announce new EP ‘Crave’ alongside blistering single “Madison” out now via Lucky Number. The five track EP ‘Crave’ will be released on April 11th and also features ferocious 2024 single and Kills Birds’ debut Lucky Number release “Behind“. New track “Madison” is accompanied by a Sims-inspired visualiser – watch HERE. The band will also play an intimate show this Saturday at LA’s Moroccan Lounge.

Speaking on the new single, the band explains; “The inspiration for Madison came during a North American tour with Sleigh Bells. While playing San Francisco, a storm trapped us in an underground Airbnb with no power. As the rain poured down, we began sketching out the melodies and chords. The gloomy weather and being in a basement felt deeply nostalgic, evoking memories of Nina and Jacob’s Midwest upbringing.

That sense of nostalgia infused the song. Lyrically, it explores themes of adolescence on the edge of adulthood, it highlights a pivotal moment in Nina’s childhood when a tragic event fractured her sense of safety and comfort. As we expanded and deepened the arrangement as a band, it became clear that the song would be sort of the centerpiece of our upcoming EP.”

Produced by Aron Kobayashi Ritch (Momma, Been Stellar) the ‘Crave’ EP is the band’s first new music since 2021 sophomore album “Married”, and their debut release for Lucky Number.

Fronted by Nina Ljeti, a Bosnian Canadian filmmaker the Los Angeles Times called “L.A.’s most electrifying new rock singer,” Kills Birds’ renowned performances are truly visceral, with guitarist Jacob Loeb’s blistering riffs and Fielder Thomas’ pummelling basslines now rounded out with the addition of new fourth member, drummer Griffin Kisner. While 2019’s self-titled debut captured the promise of their grunge-inspired sound and Ljeti’s unflinching lyrics, sophomore 2021 release “Married” signaled a notable step up with the band recording at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 with legendary producer Yves Rothman. Following the album’s release Kills Birds toured with Foo Fighters, Sleigh Bells, Shame and Viagra Boys. Now back with renewed vigour and an even more explosive sound, stay tuned for more music and announcements soon.

Kills Birds are Nina Ljeti (vocalist), Jacob Loeb (guitarist), Fielder Thomas (bassist), and Griffin Kisner (drummer).
