Emerging from the beneath the crumbling rubble of of a long-abandoned Stockholm mental institution, Frusen Sorg – which translates to “Frozen Grief” – has forged a debut EP that’s as harrowing as it is cathartic.
Set for a worldwide release on July 25th via Fiadh Productions/Void Sound, Jag Springer Med Avbrutna channels raw emotion into a torrent of blackened punk that shuns civility and embraces chaos.
“We aim to tap into the most painful corners of our minds – the ugly, weak, and rotten places that have no real place in modern life,” explains guitarist/drummer Martin Sandström. “There is power, strength, and an awful beauty there. We bring it to the surface and record it, as it’s a valid but neglected part of us. It’s very personal, even private, but we also do it to share it with others. It’s a very human thing to do.”
Formed in 2024, Sandström (Stiu Nu Stiu, Möuth, Literature) and bassist/vocalist Kalle Mattsson (Stiu Nu Stiu, Literature) are regulars amidst the darkened realms of extreme punk noise. As is evident on their latest single, ‘Bort’, an aural storm of broken rage, grief, and trauma, erupting through scorched vocals and relentless instrumentation.
“We chose ‘Bort’ as the first single because it perfectly exemplifies what we do. It’s desperate, crusty d-beat with black metal influences, featuring lyrics about real-life trauma instead of mythological themes. It’s a spot-on musical translation of what the lyrics mean – running on broken legs and wanting to go away, to give up and disappear. It’s about admitting you’re broken, that you should have given up long ago so you could heal, but you’ve kept on running because that’s all you know.
Like a soundtrack for a world on fire or a howl from the underground that refuses to be silenced, Frusen Sorg’s Jag Springer Med Avbrutna EP will be released on tape on 25th July 2025 via Fiadh Productions/Void Sound and digitally via Widsith Records and can be pre-ordered here.
