BAND OF THE DAY: DEEP DARK RIVER

Published:

Toronto’s DEEP DARK RIVER are preparing to release their sophomore record “King of the Forest” into the world on June 21st, 2019.

Combining the elements of folk, blues and classical with the spirit of heavy metal, DEEP DARK RIVER describe their sound as “haunting folk”, as indeed, the roots of this duo remain firmly planted in their metal heritage. The album comes as the first in a four chapter series. The groups creator Morgan Rider describes this immense undertaking:

“I have always wanted to create an immersive story with my music. With King of the Forest, I tackled some of the very real and very serious issues that we face in our time while alluding to my love of folklore, history and mythology. This album comprises the first chapter of the quadrilogy we plan on creating. Each chapter focuses on a particular legendary Canadian animal and their individual domain while the threat and domination of humankind burns away their existence. Of course, the music is also extremely important to us, so we have spent many hours crafting what we feel like is our best musical offering to date.”

Drawing direct inspiration from their contemporaries Woods of Ypres, while gleaning influence from other artists such as Agalloch, Shawn James, Musk Ox and Amigo the Devil, their lyrical inspiration is drawn from the political and environmental crisis’ the Earth faces.

“King of the Forest” will be released on June 21st, 2019 and is currently available for preorder on the group’s Bandcamp page.
