BAND OF THE DAY: COMING UP ROSES

Published:

Combining guitar-driven alternative rock with catchy melodies, Coming Up Roses are a London-based quartet also inspired by shoegaze and indie-pop. Their new single, ‘I’m In Bed’, is lifted from a debut album slated for release in late June.

As their first release for INH Records, it also marks a milestone for the band. Fronted by singer/bassist Emily Sera, she and guitarist Darius Oon relocated from Singapore to London in late 2022 so they could pursue their dream of being in a band as a full-time career. They subsequently met and joined forces with guitarist Charlie Wilson and drummer Caleb Blake.

Shifting into a rockier sound than that displayed on three previous EP’s, ‘I’m In Bed’ revels in moodiness as pensive verses give way to an explosive chorus. “It’s about feelings of being overwhelmed, with a more direct message about how this is brought about by mental health issues,” explains Emily, but also that this is a result of our experiences and we should not blame ourselves for going through them.”

‘I’m In Bed’ is produced by Andrea Trevisan, who also co-engineered the band’s 2024 self-titled EP, with another returning collaborator, Caesar Edmunds (Wet Leg, The Last Dinner Party), on mixing duty.

‘I’m In Bed’ is being promoted with a music video that will also be shown at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden, London on 12th April in the form of a movie-style premiere, followed by an intimate set where the band will perform several new songs. The clip itself has a humorous storyline, with Emily’s bandmates forced to find novel ways of ensuring she is ready to play a show.
