Chicanes Announce New Single ‘Fray’ (Out June 6th) // Debut Album Something Beautiful (Out June 13th)
Norwich alt-rock quartet Chicanes release their anticipated debut album Something Beautiful (June 13th). Produced by two-time Grammy Award winner Adrian Bushby (renowned for his work with Foo Fighters, Muse, U2, and Placebo) the album represents a bold evolution in the band’s sound, introducing a more mature, heavier and more in depth approach to writing.
Praised by producer Bushby as “the song will take Chicanes around the world.”, the new single ‘Fray’ gives a taste of the explosive yet considered alt-rock sound across the album. Transitioning from delicate, haunting verses, into a shoegaze-laced chorus and a climactic, crushing outro, the track is a layered and immersive expression of grief, shaped through a combination of sonic experimentation and raw intensity.
Across the album, the band bring tight distorted guitar riffs, punching drums and expressive vocals to create tracks which move between Royal Blood-esque alt rock, inventive atmospheric moments of musicality and others of intense, sprawling heavy rock. Intense and high-octane yet retaining a melodic, vivid edge thanks to the melodic lead vocals, the band’s sound at times skirts on the edge of alt-metal while others lean closer to grunge.
Talking about the album, the band explain: “We are going for heavier, more refined, deeper story telling in our writing. We have finished recording our debut album “Something Beautiful” with Adrian Bushby, and we are excited to start a new era. Having played in London and Cambridge, and being a very well known name in the Norwich music scene, we are playing our debut album launch gig at Voodoo Daddy’s on the 20th June with Fleas and AJQJ. We are known for our high energy live gigs, catchy choruses, hooks and riffs, and loud sets. Nominated for Rock category at NGM Awards 2024 and set to appear in multiple interviews and podcasts. with music videos and photoshoots on the horizon. We are excited to share the beginning of our journey with you.“
Formed in Norwich, Chicanes have been steadily building momentum with their hard-hitting yet emotionally resonant sound, earning support across the likes of Backseat Mafia, New Noise, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, and Cambridge 105’s New Music Generator to name a few. Known for their electrifying stage presence, Chicanes have sold out multiple shows across East Anglia.
The band are set to headline Voodoo Daddy’s, Norwich on June 20th, joined by Fleas and AJQJ. With more shows, interviews, and visuals planned for 2025, the band are preparing to take their sound beyond the local scene and onto the national stage.
