Acclaimed north-east artist Amelia Coburn announces her second album ‘Myself and Other Monsters’, arriving 5th March 2027, alongside new single ‘I Just Want To Say’ out 7th October.
Renowned for her vivid, gothic-tinged storytelling, Coburn’s new record is a cabinet of curiosities, where the supernatural hides within the domestic and beauty exists alongside the grotesque. Musically, it reaches for dreamlike arrangements and cinematic crescendos, with production once again by Bill Ryder-Jones, it shifts from theatrical brass to melancholic strings and haunting harmonies.
Amelia Coburn:“While writing and recording the notoriously ‘difficult’ second album, I found myself wrestling with something far more difficult than the record itself: my relationship with myself. Like many people, there are parts of myself that I prefer not to acknowledge: selfishness, jealousy, obsession, resentment, and ultimately the distressing fact that I am capable of acting in ways I do not recognise. I had spent a long time trying to suppress these facets of my personality, but realised that the more I tried to suppress them, the more insistently they would resurface.”
Offering the first glimpse of the record is the uncanny new single ‘I Just Want To Say’, which comes paired with a playful video that nods to Amelia’s love of film. Written from the perspective of an unreliable narrator: a woman sending love letters to a serial killer, exploring how love can tip into obsession. As Amelia explains: “It’s inspired by hybristophilia – the intense attraction some people feel towards criminals. Where is the line between love, lust and obsession, and how far would you go for the person you believe is the love of your life?”
The album also includes a collaboration with Paul Weller, a longtime champion of Amelia’s music. She guested on his last record, Find El Dorado, and later joined him on tour for sold-out shows in Newcastle and Liverpool.
Amelia has a knack for making the unusual sound timeless. Drawing inspiration from gothic literature and the inherent mystery of vintage horror films, there is a darkness at the heart of many of her songs, populated by vivid characters and nocturnal creatures .
On ‘Myself and Other Monsters’, Amelia turns that darkness inward: “Although the album began with something intensely personal, it is not a straightforwardly autobiographical record. Once I began looking at my own darker impulses, I wanted to examine the “monsters” that exist beyond myself: spectral creatures, morally ambiguous characters, unreliable narrators and the strange ways in which people can become monstrous, or be made to feel monstrous.”
At its heart, ‘Myself and Other Monsters’ is an attempt to look unflinchingly at the contradictions within ourselves and the world around us, and to ask the listener where the person ends and the monster begins.

Shortlisted for Best Live Performer at the AIM Independent Music Awards 2026, Amelia has built a devoted following and widespread critical acclaim. She has supported the likes of Paul Weller, Suzanne Vega, Hamish Hawk, The Levellers, Rianne Downey, Stornoway, Rumer and Katherine Priddy, and headlined a sold-out UK tour earlier this year, taking her reputation well beyond her north-eastern roots.
Her debut album, Between the Moon and the Milkman, produced by Bill Ryder-Jones, received national airplay across BBC Radio 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 Music, with further support from MOJO, The Line of Best Fit, Shindig!, RTÉ, The Arts Desk, Clash, Americana UK andmore. Live highlights include a sold-out show in the Elgar Room at Royal Albert Hall and standout sets at some of the UK’s best-loved boutique festivals, as well as major international showcases including Reeperbahn Festival and SXSW.
This December sees Amelia play her biggest full-band headline shows to date, followed by an extensive solo tour before returning to the Royal Albert Hall for a special album release show. Tickets can be foundHERE.
