ALL HAIL THE THIEVES

Nothing But Thieves introduced their fourth album ‘Dead Club City’ with lead single ‘Welcome to the DCC’ earlier this year and continue to unveil further insight into the themes and ideas around their new record with brand new single ‘Overcome’.

With socially insightful lyrics and an adept ability to progress their sound and experiment between the diverse genres that shape them as a band, Nothing But Thieves showcased their more sonically leftfield sound and made a statement return with ‘Welcome to the DCC’, marking an innovative new chapter with their fourth record ‘Dead Club City’, released on 7^th July via RCA/Sony Music. ‘Welcome to the DCC’ is A-List on Radio 1 and Radio X and has also become the band’s biggest ever airplay track to date.

New single ‘Overcome’ received its world premiere as Clara Amfo’s Hottest Record in the World on Radio 1 last night. An epic pop track that has a fragment of nostalgia yet feels captivatingly modern, it is uniquely Nothing But Thieves. Backed by an anthemic melody and 80s synths, the track builds to an uplifting and euphoric chorus that captures the mood of the album and echoes the feelings of escapism, hope and new beginnings. The video directed by Teeeezy C (Central Cee, Unknown T) gives another visual glimpse into ‘Dead Club City’ and portrays a couple’s own escapist story within the city, set against a backdrop of a live performance by the band. They say;

“Overcome has always felt like a ‘throw your stuff in a bag and get away’ song. Dead Club City (the city) would definitely feel enticing for someone like that. We’re all battling something, so having a song on the album that would describe why someone would want change felt right.”

Through their forthcoming 11-track album and new singles ‘Overcome’ and ‘Welcome to the DCC’, the band showcase their city-sized members only club ‘Dead Club City’. The album’s tracklist and overall narrative is formed by different characters and story arcs from in and around the city. Is it a shared consciousness? Another planet? The next corporate wasteland? Heaven? Or somewhere else? Creatively engineered by the band themselves, the stories, themes and connections across ‘Dead Club City’ will be revealed in the lead-up to the album through songs, videos and artwork.

Using the club as a focal point, it is easy to imagine the real-world meaning behind Dead Club City. Themes such as advertisement, unity, internet culture, the music industry, ageing and politics, as well as escapism and change are highlighted by the alienation or privilege of a members only club. Nothing But Thieves recently announced a headline UK and Ireland tour in October and November, and with a well-earned reputation for their energetic and impassioned performances, their live show is one not to be missed. Opening with two nights in Glasgow on the 31^st October and 1^st November, the tour sees the band perform a further 10 nights across the UK and Ireland, including three nights in Manchester on the 4^th, 5^th and newly added 16^th November and two headline shows at London’s OVO Arena Wembley on 10^th and also 11^th November.

The band have also been announced for this year’s Radio 1 Big Weekend in Dundee performing on Sunday May 28^th and have just finished touring sold out dates in Australia before embarking on a North American tour in September and October ahead of their UK and Ireland tour.

Nothing But Thieves toured their third album ‘Moral Panic’ in 2021 and 2022, selling over 110,000 tickets, including their biggest ever London headline show at O2 Arena and a 17,000-seat headline show at Amsterdam’s Ziggo Dome.
