A Thousand Horses have announced their return to UK shores with dates this summer in Glasgow, Manchester and London. Tickets go on sale Friday 28th March at 10am and will be available here.
About their return lead singer Michael Hobby says, “It’s been way too long since we’ve made it over across the pond, but now we are excited to say the wait is over. We are thrilled to be coming back to rock in the UK. Can’t wait to see you all this summer!”
Last year the band released their third album The Outside, which features the high-powered single ‘Highway Sound‘. Produced by Grammy Award-winner Jon Randall, the wildly life-affirming anthem delves deeper into the freewheeling originality they’ve embraced since their debut with Rolling Stone lauding, “The Outside is a sturdy, melodic country-rock record that shows what’s possible when a band is brave enough to make music without expectation.”
Written after a period of intense change in their personal lives, ‘Highway Sound’ first took shape over the course of a weekend trip to a Texas farmhouse in summer 2021, during which the band wrote the song during an impromptu session on the porch. About the track Hobby adds it’s “the freedom of cutting ties with the negativity of the past and putting your energy into celebrating a new beginning.”
A major leap forward for A Thousand Horses, ‘Highway Sound’ spotlights the powerful musicianship and soulful urgency first revealed on Southernality — the 2015 debut LP produced by Dave Cobb, which features the platinum certified single ‘Smoke’.
Over the course of its 12 songs, The Outside sheds light on everything from the thrill of following your own path (on ‘The Outside’, a powerfully cathartic rock-and-roll anthem) to the sweet relief of finding inner peace (on the gorgeously understated ‘No News’) to the profound pain of disconnection (on ‘Strangers’, with heavy-hearted lyrics written by Hobby with Chris Stapleton: “That’s how you find out/You’re really alone/When a room full of strangers/Starts feeling like home“).
As the album unfolds, A Thousand Horses match its emotional complexity with an equally intricate and unpredictable sound. “We really wanted to explore in the studio, and Jon was the right producer to guide us through that,” guitarist Bill Satcher says. “Our thinking behind everything was, ‘If it seems obvious, let’s do the exact opposite.'” To that end, the unbridled instrumental ‘Southeastern Stomp’ emerged from a late-night burst of pure spontaneity, while the slow-burning ‘Roll On’ morphs into an all-out epic at its sublimely explosive bridge.
And on ‘Over The Counter’, A Thousand Horses deliver a darkly hypnotic track fuelled by fantastically gritty outlaw-country grooves. “With ‘Over The Counter’ there was no demo or preconceived idea of what the song should be,” bassist Graham DeLoach points out. “It ended up being one of the most creative moments in the whole process of making the record, where we just got together and made everything up on the fly.”
A Thousand Horses are a two-time ACM Award nominated Nashville group and with 100 million+ streams, sold-out shows, and widespread acclaim are also known for their incendiary live show, and have toured with iconic acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean, Greg Allman and more.
